Traditional Chinese Music Appreciation

During the Tutorial period in Week 3, an event on Traditional Chinese Music Appreciation was held in Alastair Mackerras Theatre, in celebration of Chinese New Year.

Boys in Form III and IV were shown four different ancient Chinese costumes representing the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, respectively. They were also introduced to three traditional Chinese musical instruments, the Pipa, Zheng, and Er Hu, by listening to demonstrations. Boys also had the opportunity to try on the costumes and play the Chinese instruments themselves. It was evident that the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

Matthew Jinks from Form IV commented, “It was very interesting, and I learned a lot about old Chinese music and culture”.
