Edgecliff boys explore Mathematics in a way that encourages exploration of ideas and rich learning.
Mathematics is the science of structure, order, and relation, dealing with logical reasoning and quantitative calculation. At Edgecliff, one aspect of this study leads the boys to deepen their learning through collaboration and working mathematically; sharing ideas as they observe, make conjectures, and use evidence to either prove or disprove their theories. Collaborative problem solving helps the boys develop the flexibility and fluency of thinking to be able to use a range of different strategies and processes, without becoming dependent on written algorithms. This rich learning encourages the boys to discover the magic, creativity, and enjoyment of Mathematics.
