Super Twosday

Around the world, mathematicians (and of course we here at SGS) got excited about the line-up of twos that was Tuesday 22nd February 2022, with every class and grade incorporating activities that had something to do with ‘two’.

Teachers got into the swing of it all, wearing tutus or two of something!  We had the boys working through a whole range of different activities: maths puzzles involving the number 2, playing musical cup games with 2 cups (click here to view), hunting the School for objects in pairs, creating narratives with a pair of protagonists.

Our Maths Club seized the opportunity to challenge themselves with the following four twos puzzle:

They used mathematical operations to combine four twos to create as many different numbers as possible. They also explored many different ways to combine four two to give the same target number.

Boys also consider ways in which they could create the numbers 1-9 using only twos! Here are the first three counting numbers:

It all culminated in a fabulous two-step (or some variation, of two minutes and twenty two seconds duration) at 2:22pm in the afternoon.  What a wonderful day all round!
