In April boys in Forms II and III and three masters departed for the highly anticipated Queensland football tour. The boys played against GPS schools from Brisbane and Toowoomba, with respectable results in both age groups.
The U14s returned with one win, one draw and two losses and the U15s with two wins and three losses. In between games, numerous leisure activities, such as tenpin bowling, putt-putt golf and indoor rock climbing, as well as recovery sessions in the pool and at the beach.
As the tour came to a close, the boys were able to enjoy some downtime on the final night of the tour in Toowoomba, with the highly competitive Trivia Night. At the end of the night, awards were given out to honour specific players’ contributions on tour. The award for sportsmanship and effort went to Matthew Wahby. In the U14s, Most Improved went to Duncan Loane, and the Most Valued Player was Gabe Gotting. In the U15s, Most Improved was Jake Takeuchi, while Most Valued Player went to Yasith Tillekeratne. The Clubman of the Tour was given to Lucas Woods, and the ‘Ballon d’Or’, awarded to the player of the tour, was given to Ethan Kooner.
The tour was a great learning experience for the boys, developing team synergy and improving our skills. Special thanks must go to the masters involved: Mrs Forsyth, Mr Lambos and Mr Rimmer. Overall, the tour was a great success, and the boys are well prepared for the upcoming GPS season.
