In April, Yiming Bing (VI) was livestreamed on UN Television while delivering a speech in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Selected as the only Australian high school pupil, and one of just 85 globally, Yiming attended the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum, which brings together diplomats, academics and young leaders to advance sustainable development. He was also invited to address a plenary session on climate action, innovation and sustainable cities.
In his address, Yiming highlighted the absence of Australian youth voices in global decision making, arguing that young people from Oceania offer a vital and underrepresented perspective on issues such as climate change and rising sea levels.
He encouraged other young Australians to pursue their own ideas and engage with international organisations, emphasising the importance of youth participation in shaping global outcomes.
