The Khusid Ensemble made its first performance appearance in the Term IV Jazz Concert.
Dr Malpass formed this group in honour of our beloved Vlad Khusid who passed away at the very start of 2023. As Dr Malpass can regularly recall (as a pupil of Vlad’s since the late 1980s), Vlad always strived to ensure that jazz would be strong at Grammar and loved by the boys, and his legend grew generation upon generation. The Khusid Ensemble is intended to be an ongoing nod to Vlad’s enormous capacity to inspire and his incomparable achievements.
The inaugural Khusid Ensemble features Harry Awad (IV) on piano, Jonty Snyman (IV) on bass and Brock Soedirdja (III) on drums playing Clifford Brown’s masterpiece Joy Spring.
