“Chess is the gymnasium of the mind.” – Blaise Pascal

Edgecliff's Chess programme offers students from Infants to Year Six a pathway to develop critical thinking, resilience and strategic skills.

Edgecliff is committed to making chess both accessible and aspirational for all students. Through year group clubs, up to our Championship Club and School teams, the boys have had the opportunity to progress from foundational play to increasingly advanced tactics, supported by a structured and engaging learning environment.

At the upper levels, the Championship Chess Club has enabled our top performers to refine their abilities in preparation for competitive play.

Throughout the year, boys of all skill levels have shown notable progress in gameplay and confidence, a reflection of consistent mentoring and regular opportunities to test their skills.

The House Chess Competition, held in Term 3, brought together students from across all stages of the programme for a spirited display of strategy and sportsmanship. It marked a fitting conclusion to a year of progress and achievement.
