Artist in Residence: Erica Nottage

This term we welcomed Japanese Australian Artist-in-Residence, Erica Nottage.

Ms Nottage’s practice explores the intersection of her Japanese heritage with Western art movements, including Russian Constructivism. During her residency, the boys collaborated on an origami project to construct a large three-dimensional, wave-like form. This work brought together the sculptural traditions of Japanese craft and Piet Mondrian’s distinctive use of colour in painterly abstraction.

As part of the project, the boys were invited to reflect on aspects of Japanese culture as well as their own cultural backgrounds, considering how these shape their identities as young people.
